What is matcha tea?
Matcha is a fine green powder made from specially grown and dried tea leaves. Unlike regular green tea, here you don't just drink the extract - you ingest the whole leaf. That's why matcha is richer in antioxidants, caffeine and other useful compounds. You can find more details about the application of sword tea, as well as its benefits, in our text Matcha Magic: Everything You Should Know About Matcha Tea.
It looks beautiful online: green foam in a ceramic bowl, bamboo whisk, light vibes. But what made me write about the sword is not the aesthetics - but the fact that, through personal experience and conversations with women, it turned out that the sword is not just a trend, but can actually help when your body is screaming from stress.
If you are a woman whose hormones often "disintegrate" under pressure - PMS out of sheer calm, hunger pangs, insomnia, anxiety for no reason - maybe it's not just hormones that are bothering you. Maybe it's stress, and it's the quiet, everyday one that slowly disturbs your inner balance.
That's why I wanted to share how matcha can become your ally in calming the body, mind and hormones - without aggressive supplements and without the feeling that you have to "treat yourself". Just a cup of something warm, green, and yours.
Stress and hormones - what actually happens in the body?
Stress is not always what we recognize as a "big problem". Sometimes it's just "I have to" suppressed for days, we lie down late, eat on the way, think 100 per hour... and the body quietly tries to warn us that something is wrong.
In the middle of all this, the main actor becomes cortisol - the stress hormone. It triggers us at the moment when we need to "fight or flight", but if it remains elevated for a long time, it starts to disrupt the work of other hormones.
For women, this often means:
- irregular cycle
- PMS that gets worse month after month
- energy drop in the second part of the cycle
- insomnia, anxiety, sudden drops in blood sugar
- a constant feeling of tension, as if you are "on the edge"
You might think that the problem is just hormones. But very often, hormonal imbalance is a consequence of chronic stress - one that we don't recognize because it has become "normal" for us.
In my case, it mostly manifested through an irregular cycle and a constant feeling of tension, even when objectively there was no reason for it. That's why before you reach for something "strong", it might be worth trying something small, everyday, natural - which soothes the body from the inside.
Somewhere, in that small cup of kitten, I felt for the first time that I don't need to "fix hormones" right away - but to start calming down first.
How Maca Affects the Nervous System and Stress (And Why It Means a Lot for Your Hormones)
Unlike classic coffee, which often causes a sudden jump in energy and then a drop, matcha gives a more stable alertness - thanks to the combination of caffeine and L-theanine.
L-theanine is an amino acid naturally present in matcha tea, and what makes it special is that it calms the brain without causing drowsiness. It works by increasing the level of alpha brain waves - a state associated with relaxed focus, meditation and deep concentration.
When you drink swordfish, you get:
- energy (but without nervousness)
- focus (but without tension)
- mental clarity (but without the "burnout" afterwards)
And all that means less stress for the body.
And when the stress response in the body decreases, the excessive secretion of cortisol, a hormone that directly interferes with:
- ovulation
- progesterone production
- blood sugar balance
- and the rhythm of your cycle in general
That's why the sword does not act "directly on hormones", but creates space for the body to restore balance. When you're not constantly in fight-or-flight mode, your hormones can breathe.
Other benefits of kittens that support hormonal balance
In addition to the already mentioned benefits of sword tea, there are also numerous other benefits which directly or indirectly support hormonal balance and general health.
1. Natural detoxification of the liver
Matcha is rich in chlorophyll, which supports the work of the liver - the main organ for processing hormones. When the liver is overloaded (poor diet, stress, lack of sleep), hormones stay longer in the body and an imbalance occurs. With the help of a kitten, you can gently help your body process excess hormones and waste.
2. Strong antioxidant protection
Matcha contains high amounts of catechins, especially EGCG - an antioxidant that reduces inflammatory processes in the body. Less inflammation = better work of hormones, less problems with skin, cycle and sudden drops of energy.
3. Possible help with insulin resistance and blood sugar
Some research suggests that maca may help regulate glucose and insulin sensitivity. For women with PCOS or insulin resistance, this can mean a more stable appetite, fewer cravings for sweets and a gradual return to balance.
4. Support for mood and mental resilience
Thanks to the combination of caffeine and L-theanine, matcha helps you feel more alert and not overstimulated. On days when PMS increases anxiety and emotional swings, this kind of support often makes the difference between "I can push on" and "I can't anymore."
How to incorporate a sword into your everyday life (even when you don't have time)
One of the things I love most about a kitten is that it can be completely simple - and yet special enough. You don't have to have a ritual with a whisk and a ceramic bowl (unless you really want to). You can prepare it quickly and drink it during a break, while scrolling through emails or thinking about what to have for lunch.
Here are some ways you can use it - and that are realistic, even on chaotic days:
1. Matcha latte (my choice when I have 5 minutes to spare)
In 200 ml of warm (not hot) vegetable milk, add:
- 1 tsp matcha powder (high quality is best)
- 2 dl milk of your choice (we recommend almond or oat milk)
- 1 teaspoon honey or other sweetener as desired (optional)
- Hot water
Mix well (you can also use a hand beater or in a blender) and enjoy a gentle, warm drink that doesn't throw you out of sync like coffee. You can see a more detailed recipe and instructions for preparation matcha latte recipe on our website.
2. Quick smoothie for focus
If you already drink other powders (spirulina, maca, MSM...), you can combine them:
- 1 banana
- a handful of blueberries
- 1 teaspoon of catnip
- 1 teaspoon almond butter
- 200ml plant-based milk
You blend it, drink it, and you know you've given your body something really good.
What is important to know about consumption time?
It is best to drink it in the morning or before noon, because it contains caffeine (but milder than coffee).
Do not take it in the late afternoon or evening, especially if you are sensitive to caffeine
Avoid drinking it at the same time as iron, as caffeine can reduce its absorption
And most importantly:
If a latte doesn't fit into your daily schedule - that's totally fine.
Maybe you're closer to simply mixing matcha into a juice, smoothie, or even a plain glass of warm water with lemon.
The point is not to be perfect. The point is to make it yours.
Conclusion
Hormones don't like pressure. Not even the one from the outside - from obligations, stress, noise. Nor the one from the inside - when we try to "repair" them by force.
That's why matcha tea is close to my heart. Not because it solves everything, but because it reminds me that I can help myself without a frantic struggle - through simple choices that please me.
If you're a woman whose stress is throwing you off your balance little by little every day, maybe one cup of kitten isn't going to change your life. But maybe they'll give you 10 minutes of peace. And everything starts from there.
A sword is not a medicine. But at the right moment, it can be your silent ally.
